The Biggest Lesson from Beatport Connect

I walked into Beatport Connect expecting conversations about algorithms and left thinking about community.

The words I heard over and over:

• Know your audience.• Nurture your audience.• Stop listening to your clout.

The industry is shifting. Followers don't equal fans. Viral moments don't equal careers.

The people winning are creating experiences that people come back to, over and over again.

As DJ TWILO and founder of Play Hospitality, this hit home. Whether it's a club night, radio show, or private event, the question isn't

"How many people saw it?" It's "How many people want to return?"

Community is the new currency.

The Truth About Music and Ego

@thejuanmaclean “ explaining his experience in transcending the crowd, and how you can’t teach it.”

A line I wrote in my notebook:

“Turn the lights down. It’s not about me.”

In a world obsessed with attention, Beatport Connect reminded me to ask:

Am I doing this for validation?

Or am I chasing truth?

Electronic music has healing capacity.

Nightlife can be communal, intentional, psychedelic, transformative.

Capitalism wants us to constantly perform.

Art asks us to be honest.

I know which side I’m choosing.
